Project Summary

Problem

Users struggle to find work or affordable talent on other platforms. We aim to enable better discovery with the goal of having users connect more easily and send their first message within 10 minutes of tapping on that section

Action

  • Conducted audit and discovery call to determine stakeholder goals.
  • Conducted User Interviews and created User Personas.
  • Designed, Ideated, and prototyped, high-fidelity wireframes and designs.
  • Created user flows and journeys.
  • Worked with tools such as Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Notion (PM tool

Result

The project was completed within 90 days, aimed to streamline user navigation and boost satisfaction. Development is underway, with plans to measure if users can send a message within 10 minutes

Problem

“Users struggle to find work or affordable talent on other platforms. We aim to enable better discovery with the goal of having users connect more easily and send their first message within 10 minutes of tapping on that section”

Actions

User Interviews

Types of users:

different types of artists with different goals and skill levels

Workflows:

what they do when they want to find a job or want to find an artist to work for

Feedback:

feature suggestions and other things users might want to see in the app

Favorite Apps:

which applications and other solutions musicians currently used to connect

We began early on to do user research to help guide our goal setting and perspective. We Interviewed 5 Users that had varying levels of experience in the music industry, from beginner producer, to experienced rappers, we were able to gather insights that helped us focus our efforts and understanding, some insights gained include:

Research Findings

The research findings helped us pinpoint types of users

Competitive Analysis

The research findings helped us pinpoint types of users

Indeed

two separate pages for “Employer” and “ Employee

Monster

two separate pages for “Employer” and “ Employee

Job Sites Tend to Separate Pages for Employers And Employees

We considered having two separate pages for employers and employees based on that research, but realized our users can easily be both audiences, so we needed it to be more seamless

It was clear we needed to create a system that showed the relevant information based on the type of user, but at the same time wasn’t too disconnected since there was large overlaps between user types and goals.

Insight

User Goals & Audit

The founders had visual drafts that they had come up with previously but were incomplete and had various issues. The first step was to understand their goals and the users goals, as well as todo an audit on all existing screens /assets they currently had and use those as starting points.

Create one screen that caters to both users

Have a robust filtering system that works when looking for work, or looking for users

Make jobs easily “skimmable”

"Create job postings” should allow detailed descriptions and the upload of samples

• Inefficient use of space

• No Design for non-filtered / non searched page

• Inefficient solution for “employer” and “employee” views utilizing a switch

• Overuse of  gradients

• Multiple accent colours with little cohesiveness

• Unclear where the user is currently

User Journey

With our insight from our research and our goals being clear, we created a user journey to better visualize how the feature will work so that everyone on the team was on the same page. Through several iterations and back and forth with the client, we ended up on this user journey, which were then used to create the actual screens that would then go on to be developed.

Creating and Iterating Screens

It was imperative that we iterated until we got as close to the ideal solution as possible for each screen. This is an example of the iteration process when applied to the Kollab landing page.

The Kollab landing page was an especially key part we needed to nail since it would be what users saw immediately, so it would play a big role in helping us reach the established KPI of first message within 10 minutes.

Some of the things that needed to be immediately apparent without much thought form the were how to create postings, how to find postings, how to find people for existing projects

Prototype

Problem

We successfully completed the project within 90 days with the client expressing high satisfaction in regards to the finalized design, praising its thoroughness and alignment with his objectives. He is optimistic that this solution will substantially move us closer to our user satisfaction goals.

Design Impact

The unified interface—separated by a tab for each user persona—simplifies navigation and increases efficiency. With features like a robust filter system and detailed views for jobs and user credentials, the design aims to offer a user experience that's both efficient and enjoyable.

Next Steps

Development underway and looking forward to seeing tangible impact of the design. We plan on testing the live app to see if we have reached the goal of having users send a message with 10 minutes.
